What Does "Download Quota Exceeded for This File" Mean?
Google Drive is one of the most widely used cloud storage platforms in the world. When a public file link goes viral on social media, Reddit, Telegram, or gaming forums, hundreds or thousands of users attempt to download it simultaneously.
To prevent bandwidth exhaustion and unauthorized file-hosting abuse, Google applies an undisclosed daily bandwidth threshold (estimated at approximately 100GB to 250GB per file per 24-hour cycle). Once this threshold is crossed, Google locks public downloading and displays:
"Sorry, you can't view or download this file at this time.
Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently. Please try accessing the file again later. If the file you are trying to access is particularly large or is shared with many people, it may take up to 24 hours to be able to view or download the file."
Why SaveInDrive's 1-Click Cloud Cloner is 100x Faster
Normally, you would have to wait 24 hours for Google's automated counter to reset. Or you would have to download the file to your computer and re-upload it — consuming double your home internet data.
SaveInDrive bypasses this constraint at the cloud infrastructure level:
- Cloud Server-to-Server Duplication: Our backend communicates with Google Drive API v3 to duplicate the file directly into your personal Google Drive storage.
- Zero Local Data Used: Whether the file is 500 MB or 45 GB, zero bytes are downloaded to your smartphone or laptop.
- Instant Execution: Server-to-server duplication completes in 1 to 2 seconds.
- Permanent Access: The file is now safely stored in your own Google Drive, where only you control it.
