When developers run git clone https://huggingface.co/org/model, Git LFS (Large File Storage) attempts to download multi-gigabyte pointer files sequentially. Unfortunately, Git LFS relies on single-threaded HTTP connections that frequently fail on residential broadband, easily triggers Git LFS monthly bandwidth overage caps, and clones huge .git/lfs/objects/ caches that double the disk space required on your machine.
Never use git clone for large AI model weights. Instead, bypass Git LFS entirely by fetching weights directly from Hugging Face's global CDN endpoints (https://huggingface.co/org/repo/resolve/main/model.safetensors) and streaming them straight into Google Drive using SaveInDrive. This eliminates .git repository overhead, avoids Git LFS bandwidth caps, and downloads at multi-gigabit datacenter speeds.
